Isuzu Motors Limited and Applied Intuition, Inc. have signed a strategic partnership agreement to jointly develop Level 4 autonomous commercial trucks over the next five years. This collaboration aims to leverage Applied Intuition’s advanced technologies to expedite Isuzu’s autonomous driving business, particularly in response to the 2024 workstyle reform legislation in Japan and other challenges in the logistics industry.
As part of Isuzu’s mid-term business plan, “ISUZU Transformation—Growth to 2030 (IX),” released in April, the company will establish autonomous driving solutions as a new business pillar. Isuzu plans to launch Level 4 autonomous truck and bus businesses in Japan and North America by FY2028. The strategic partnership with Applied Intuition will be crucial in achieving this goal.

Through this partnership, Isuzu will gain access to advanced autonomous driving technology and develop Level 4 autonomous trucks for highway transportation in Japan. In 2026, verification tests under the operational design domain (ODD) specified by Isuzu will be conducted to lay the groundwork for launching Level 4 autonomous driving businesses by FY2028. Together, Isuzu and Applied Intuition aim to propel autonomous driving solutions forward, ushering in the next phase of innovative transport.
Shinsuke Minami, President and Representative Director, COO of Isuzu Motors Limited, stated, “The partnership with Applied Intuition will significantly advance the development of autonomous driving technology and provide a solid foundation as we enter the Level 4 autonomous driving business in FY2028. I believe that Applied Intuition’s advanced technologies will be a strong driving force in realizing our Isuzu Transformation (IX) goals. Isuzu is committed to developing new businesses with new technology and addressing the various challenges faced by customers and society as a whole.”
Qasar Younis, Co-Founder and CEO of Applied Intuition, added, “Applied Intuition is dedicated to enabling our OEM customers to deploy next-generation technology in their vehicles. In this case, we’re advancing commercial trucking autonomy with Isuzu. Unlike other companies in our ecosystem, we succeed only if our customers succeed. We look forward to helping one of the largest truck OEMs in the world address needs in commercial trucking and develop in-house capabilities.”
This partnership marks a significant step forward in the development of autonomous driving technology, promising to bring innovative solutions to the logistics industry.
