Volvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S.) and Waabi have announced a strategic partnership to deliver safe and efficient autonomous freight transport by integrating the Volvo VNL Autonomous with the Waabi Driver.
“This partnership is an exciting next step in developing transformative autonomous transport solutions,” said Shahrukh Kazmi, Chief Product Officer at Volvo Autonomous Solutions. “By combining Volvo’s leadership in automation and safety innovation with Waabi’s expertise in AI-driven autonomous driving technology, we are delivering solutions that tackle the industry’s capacity challenges today and paving the way for scalable, reliable operations.”
Raquel Urtasun, Founder and CEO of Waabi, added, “We are excited to vertically integrate Waabi's next-generation AI technology directly into Volvo’s robust and proven technology platform. This partnership ushers in a new era of scalable and efficient autonomous transportation. Volvo’s leadership in safety, commitment to excellence in engineering, and investment in forward-looking innovation make them an ideal partner to realize the future of self-driving trucks everywhere.”
The collaboration with Waabi builds on the relationship established in 2023 when Volvo Group Venture Capital invested in Waabi, reinforcing the shared goal of addressing the transportation industry’s increasing capacity challenges.

Waabi’s Next-Generation Technology
Waabi’s next-generation AV2.0 approach, based on an end-to-end interpretable and verifiable AI model, enables their virtual driver system, Waabi Driver, to generalize scenarios on the road. As part of the partnership, the advanced Waabi Driver will be integrated with Volvo’s flagship long-haul model for the US market, the Volvo VNL Autonomous.
Volvo VNL Autonomous
The Volvo VNL Autonomous is a truck built for autonomy, featuring six critical redundant systems—dual braking, steering, communication, computing, power, energy storage, and motion control—enabling safe operations. It is built on Volvo’s autonomous technology platform that can integrate multiple virtual drivers, supporting diverse operational needs, use cases, and Volvo Group truck brands.
Comprehensive Support System
Volvo Autonomous Solutions believes that partnership is key to leadership in autonomous driving, as the challenges of autonomy are too complex to solve alone. Making autonomous transport a reality requires more than just trucks—it demands a fully integrated ecosystem. To achieve this, V.A.S. has developed a comprehensive support system, including uptime services, fleet management tools, and maintenance infrastructure. Through strategic collaborations, such as the partnership with Waabi, V.A.S. is laying the foundation for safe, reliable, and scalable autonomous operations.
